On the heels of their high-octane debut single “True Romance”, London-based indie outfit Citizens! move forward on their quest to reclaim pop music with new single “Reptile”. Now signed to Parisian label Kitsuné, the band will release the song on Feb 13th and the video, directed by Thibault Dumoulin, is already going viral on the net!

And if you think they sound a lot like Franz Ferdinand, you’d be right — as it turns out Citizens!’s debut album, due out later this year, will be produced by none other than Alex Kapranos, aka Franz Ferdinand’s frontman.

Composed by Martyn, Thom, Mike, Lawrence and Tom , Citizens! is a London-based five-piece with a mission: to reclaim pop music, because “Pop is not a dirty word. It’s a holy one.” Recently signed to indie label Kitsuné (the lasbel who brought you Logo, Delphic or Housse de Racket), they recorded their debut album in a house, played the whole thing live, got drunk, fought over lyrics and didn’t edit out the mistakes. Most importantly, they never allowed themselves to mimic any particular moment from decades past.

The band’s high-octane debut single, “True Romance”, appeared on Kitsuné’s last compilation and it is getting a proper single release tomorrow December 19th. Along with the original track, the EP includes remixes by talented artists as Database, Populette, White Shadow, Cassian, and Database !

After the massive success of the album Record Collection in late 2010, Mark Ronson & The Business INTL came back for more last September with Record Collection 2012, a massive remix EP released on Kitsuné. The seven-track EP includes a completely revamped version of the track “Record Collection” featuring new vocals by MNDR, Pharell, Wiley and Wretch 32, and adds six stomping remixes by CSS, Database, LOGO, Perseus, Plastic Plates and Moonlight Matters.

Continue reading »]]> Young Empires are Robert Aaron Ellingson, Jake Palahnuk and Matthew Vlahovich out of Toronto, Canada. Formed in October 2009, the trio describes their style as “world beat haute rock”. After releasing their self-produced debut EP online and getting the song “Glory of the Night” featured on Parisan fashion/music label Kitsune’s Maison 10 Compilation in 2010, Young Empires are now poised to release their highly anticipated debut album.

Continue reading »]]> After months and months of anticipation, many mixtapes and a bunch of crazy remixes, Belgian rising star of Nu Disco The Magician aka Stephen Fasano, formerly one half of Aeroplane, is finally ready to introduce his long-awaited solo debut, the single “I Don’t Know What to Do”. He dug into his eclectic bag of tricks to conjure up a devilishly tasty record, featuring vocals by Danish artist Jeppe Laursen.

The single, which will be out on legendary Parisian label Kitsuné on October 3rd, will showcase three stunning remixes by Fabian, Plastic Plates and Second Date.

The Magician made the decision to fly solo from Aeroplane only about a year ago but his has been a meteoric rise. Stephen first appeared under his new guise through his popular ‘Magic Tapes’ mixtape series available as free downloads on Soundcloud.

These didn’t go unnoticed among music aficionados and neither did his stunning remixes for the likes of The Aikiu, Beni, Yuksek and Lykke Li. The Magician’s remix of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” became an instant cult hit and garnered over 3 millions plays on YouTube. The final push was the release of “Twist”, a collaboration with Yuksek which got massive airplay across clubland this summer and cemented The Magician’s reputation.

Continue reading »]]> Swedish quartet The Touch formed in the autumn of 2006 in the grey city of Gothenburg on Sweden’s west coast. Clubs such as The Eye and Beli Konj had become spheres of evasion and escapism. This is the scene where the soon to be The Touch members got together: Olov and Johan who at the time were doing sunshine pop, met with Andreas who had been making house music for several years, and the three of them met Lina. Early experiments by The Touch consisted of 70′s disco pollinated by sampled sounds and a pinch of tech house. When DJ Nibc, owner of dance label Trunkfunk, heard the track “Heart of the city” and later “Le Night Dominator” he showed interest in releasing the tracks. This was the birth of a collaboration that would result in The Touch EP and a 12″ single entitled “Xtra Energy”.

The Touch recently relseased their beautifuly dark track “Sermon” on Kitsuné along with remixes by Renaissance Man, Seekae, Cosmonaut and DJ Nibc (you can purchase the EP here). Also included in this fantastic package, a remix by Chad Valley, who brings for the occasion a touch of balearic and a chillwave atmosphere and which we are offering you today!

Continue reading »]]> After revisiting Japan a few months ago with their discolicious Saké EP (and the already-classic Saké dance), French electro pop duo Jupiter is ready to make you discover a completely different universe with their new single “Kass Limon”, released on July 19th on oh-so-chic Parisian label Kitsuné!

Based on a summer hit by legendary Caribbean band Kassav, the song will surprise you in more ways than one. First and foremost, because seeing the names of trendy electro duo Jupiter and 80s zouk legends Kassav on the same CD sleeve was all but predictable! However, age gap and musical background aside, the collaboration makes complete sense when you know about Jupiter’s inborn passion for retro hits and everything that’s shiny and glittery!

Amélie and Quarles, Jupiter’s creative core, took the beat of Kassav’s classic zook song “Lagué Moin”, they added some of their trademark synths, a touch of nu-disco and sampled vocals from the original track to come up with a true dancefloor anthem!

So if you want some punchy nu-disco flavoured pop, “Kass Limon” is just what you need. Now, get ready to dance to Jupiter’s most bouncy and summery hit to date!

Continue reading »]]> After the success of their debut album Forty Love, which included the hit single “Oh Yeah!”, Housse de Racket spent a fair amout of time touring Europe in front of a growing fan base. It took them a while to get back in the studio and work on new material but the wait was worth it! The synth rock duo recently announced the imminent release of their sophomore album Alesia on hip Parisian label Kitsune (also home to Delphic, Logo, Is Tropical).

For their new record, which will hit the stores on August 22, they worked with French superstar producer Philippe Zdar (Cassius, Phoenix, The Rapture…) on eleven futuristic pop songs, with a wide range of influences from Morricone to Carpenter and Bowie.

Ahead of the release, Housse de Racket have decided to tease us a little with a free download taken off the album. Supremely melodic and atmospheric, “Roman” leaps out of the speakers and is just one of the many glorious pop moments on this dazzling new album !

Out of the dark and into the blue, two boys and a girl from Belgium collide to create Shindu. A refreshing synthpopsensation that embodies the challenge to take music into the dawn of a new era. Shindu started out as DJ duo Static & Greedy, created a while back by Christopher D’havé and Maxime Abbenbroek, who spent years journeying through Belgian club life and sharing their quirky mixture of electro with crowds of happy dancers. To complete the band, they needed a strong leading lady so they set up some auditions and it quickly became clear that Chibi was the right one for the job. As for the icing, they got introduced to producer Sebastiaan Vandevoorde (aka Moonlight Matters), met up in the studio, exchanged some ideas and finally felt we’d established the perfect team to get things started.

Shindu create jaunty yet clever dancefloor-friendly tracks drenched in late 80s electronica and synthy atmospherics. Their version of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ 1980 classic song “Happy House” is too good, so here it is for you to enjoy. The Happy House EP with remixes from Herr Styler, Midnight Savari, JBAG, Martians and Polydor is out since June 27th on Kitsuné.

Continue reading »]]> After parting ways with Aeroplane partner Vito DeLuca last year (just shortly before Aeroplane’s debut album was released), Stephen Fasano soon resurfaced as The Magician. With this new moniker and new SoundCloud page to go with it, he started releasing brilliant mixtapes of shiny Italo Disco that didn’t go unnoticed and he produced remixes for the likes of The Aikiu, Beni, Lykke Li and Yuksek.

French electro master Yuksek and Stephen Fasano have actually been collaborating ever since Fasano’s split with Aeroplane and together they have created the duo Peter & The Magician. The project has already been arousing much excitement and curiosity among DJs and electro lovers since the release of their first single “Twist” on Kitsuné Maison Compilation 11 back in May.

Now things are going even crazier with their debut EP released last week June 20th on Kitsuné. The Twist EP features the original mix of the title track and two brand new songs: “La Fiorentina” and “Love in Rimini”. This new endeavour goes even deeper into the disco-tinged electro world of these two music obsessed fellows and the trip is well worth the wait! Check out “Twist” just below…

Peter & The Magician – Twist

Peter & The Magician seem to have found the rarest musical alchemy and made of it an instant classic. The combination of Fasano’s and Yuksek’s personal styles gives birth to a perfectly balanced fusion of dancey beats, Balearic disco and synthpop. While it is still unclear whether the duo will continue or if it’s a one-off collaboration, let’s just enjoy this for now and hope there will be more…
