Barely a year after their dazzling debut album Tropical, Moscow-based indie outfit Pompeya is already back with a gorgeous new record. Featuring seven brand new tracks, the album is appropriately titled Foursome and it is currently available as a free download through the band’s SoundCloud.

Foursome was entirely recorded and produced over the course of one month in Los Angeles at Bedrock studios (previously patronized by the likes of Beck, Yeasayer and The Black Keys) and this change of scenery seems to have had a strong impact on Pompeya’s sound. During the recording process the band soaked up a lot of different influences and distilled them through their new compositions, which sound more mature and assured than ever.

French electro duo The Shoes are part of a new wave of indie artists from the Northern city of Reims (think Yuksek, Brodinski or The Bewitched Hands). Their debut album Crack My Bones was released in March 2011 to rave reviews and features a number of guest appearances including Esser, CocknBullKid and Wave Machines. There’s dancefloor moments that will be familiar to those who have followed the duo since their debut back in 2009, but there’s also dark electronic pop songs that you’re going to fall in love with.

The Shoes’ last single is the unstoppable stomper “Time To Dance”, released last month and backed by remixes from SebastiAn, Esser, Rocky Piano and Dddxie. You can stream the whole EP on SoundCloud and watch the video for the song (featuring Jake Gyllenhaal) on Vimeo.

SF-based electropop duo Midi Matilda is the fruit of a long collaboration between Logan Grimé and Skyler Kilborn, two musicians who met at college in 2008 and have been making music ever since. They craft the kind of catchy indie-flavoured pop gems that worm their way into your brain and stay there for days on end. Filled with bubbly synths, careless falsetto vocals and punchy beats, the band’s debut EP, Red Light District, has been getting a lot of heat since its release last February.

After the sweeping success of their 2011 debut album In Light, released in June 2011 via Glassnote Records, Louisiana indie outfit Givers keep distilling their feel-good brand of bouncy pop with new single “Ceiling of Plankton”.

To be completely honest, the song is not technically new, since it was actually shared a couple of years ago on the band’s SoundCloud, but it is now getting a re-release of sorts. Indeed, Givers recently posted a brand new video for the song, directed by Mimi Cave and produced by Michael Macdonald. You can watch the video on Vimeo and stream the song below.

Malaga-born singer-songwriter Anni B Sweet is one of the most promising Spanish newcomers of the last few years. After releasing her debut album Start, Restart, Undo in 2009 on indie label Subterfuge Records and conquering the hearts of thousands of fans in Spain (her debut went gold in just a few months), Anni is ready to share her very personal blend of indie folk with the rest of Europe.

Her new single “At Home” was released last month in Spain to rave reviews and Anni B Sweet is now unveiling her sophomore album, Oh, Monsters, out worldwide on April 24th. Somewhat reminiscent of Keren Ann‘s lyrical musings or Beach House‘s retro aesthetics, Anni wraps her raw emotions in a layer of earnest folk music, with just a few hints of dream-pop here and there to sweeten the mix.

Reykjavik’s indie pop collective Retro Stefson was born out of the ashes of an ill-fated rap group started by lead singer Unnstein Stefansson. The six members (who happen to be former schoolmates) gradually moved to a more pop-oriented sound, while also taking inspiration from world music. Now a fully-fledged band, Retro Stefson have released 2 albums, a handful of EPs and they recently shared a brand new song, “Qween”, the first single off their forthcoming third LP.

Retro Stefson mix rock influences, low slung bass lines, funk guitars, electronic beats and African elements to create a fresh and enticing sound. But the young combo also like to share their colourful music palette with other a artists. In the past, they have remixed songs for fellow Icelanders FM Belfast, who returned the favour on “Senseni”.

The Belligerents are an indie pop band born and bred in Brisbane, Australia. After the success of their debut EP, Less Arty More Party, released in 2011, they are now gearing up for the release of their new EP, which was recorded at Airlock Studios with Yanto Browning (The Medics, Jungle Giants, Tara Simmons). The first single is called “Infatuation” and it’s already available on all download platforms.

Catchy is the key word here, with hooks so sharp they should be illegal. Now wonder The Belligerents have already shared stage with some pretty big names, like Metronomy, Neon Indian, Breakbot, Yacht Club DJs, Bleeding Knees Club or Last Dinosaurs. Keep an ear out for the new EP, out next May!
