On the heels of their high-octane debut single “True Romance”, London-based indie outfit Citizens! move forward on their quest to reclaim pop music with new single “Reptile”. Now signed to Parisian label Kitsuné, the band will release the song on Feb 13th and the video, directed by Thibault Dumoulin, is already going viral on the net!

And if you think they sound a lot like Franz Ferdinand, you’d be right — as it turns out Citizens!’s debut album, due out later this year, will be produced by none other than Alex Kapranos, aka Franz Ferdinand’s frontman.

Gothenburg-based indie pop act Alpaca Sports is really the solo project of Andreas Jonsson, a talented young artist who makes playful pop music with jangly guitars and super catchy hooks. Recorded, mixed and produced by Kalle von Hall, his double A-side debut single “Just For Fun/I’ll Never Win” will be released as a very limited 7″ (300 copies) via Luxury/Dufflecoat on March 22.

Citing influences ranging from The Smiths to The Field Mice, St Christopher to The Brilliant Corners, The Go-Betweens to Acid House Kings, Jonsson might be the face of Alpaca Sports but he also gets a lot of help from his friends: Carl Jirestedt (co-writer), Hampus Öhman-Frölund (drums), Amanda Åkerman (back-up vocals), Olle Griphammar (bass), Diana Andrén Scarpati (viola)… The result is a sweet and sunny brand of indie pop that will put on broad smile on your face!

Continue reading »]]> Wildbirds & Peacedrums are a contemporary experimental two piece hailing from Sweden consisting of singer Mariam Wallentin and drummer Andreas Werliin. Their “instruments” consist of her powerful vocals and his unorthodox juxtaposition of percussion and drums, resulting in a powerful, innovative sound.

The track below is taken off the duo’s critically acclaimed fourth album Rivers. It was remixed by Fodral, who masterfully duplicated the steel drums intro and added layers of cosmic synths to enhance Wallentin’s vocals.

Ewert And The Two Dragons is a folk-rock quartet from Tallin, Estonia. The line-up consists of vocalist Ewert Sundja, guitarist Erki Pärnoja, drummer Kristjan Kallas and Ivo Etti on bass, guitar and other instruments. Their debut album The Hills Behind The Hills was released in autumn 2009 and since then they have taken the Baltics by storm.

After playing alongside Muse and Scissor Sisters at the biggest Baltic music festival Positivus in 2010, Ewert & The Two Dragons released their sophomore album Good Man Down in April 2011 to great reviews. With this new effort, the band is taking huge steps towards bringing their organic, folksy sound to a much wider audience in Europe and (why not?) the world…

Jonathan Boulet is a young musician from Sydney’s northwest suburbs, who released his self-titled debut album in 2009 via trendy Aussie label Modular. He recently resurfaced from the wilderness after a long pause to work on his second album, scheduled for release this year.

London-based disco rock trio We Have Band have just unveiled a new track off their forthcoming sophomore album Ternion, scheduled for release at the end of January. “Watertight” follows on the heels of their December single “Where Are Your People”, a delicious piece of catchy indie pop with dark undertones.

The single was backed with WHB’s covers of “Still Life” by The Horrors and “Within and Without” by Washed Out and it drastically raised expectations ahead of the band’s new abum.  Now Darren Bancroft, Dede W-P and Thomas W-P are back with more new music: “Watertight” is further proof that WHB have mastered the art of mixing influences to create a sound that defies categorisation or pigeonholing.

Brooklyn’s own Body Language has risen from the underground armed with synths, vocoder, glockenspiel, percussion, and three graceful voices. Their original music was born from weekly dance parties set up by Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, who quickly enrolled glockenspiel guru Angelica Bess and drummer Ian Chang. Their efforts, which illustrated their life in Brooklyn, were delivered in the five-track Speaks EP.

Body Language – Huffy Ten Speed

After collaborating with such wildly different artists as Theophilus London, Machinedrum or Passion Pit and sharing stage with the likes of Zero 7, Sia, Little Boots and SVIIB, Body Language released the Social Studies EP last October. This mini album is a fitting followup to their 2009 debut, applying a refined pop palette to their synth-laden melodies, head-circling hooks and neon-lit grooves.

“The title sums it up perfectly,” explains Grant Wheeler. “Depending on the day, we’re producing indie music, DJing house, disco and Detroit techno, or writing pop songs on the piano. So we wrapped our record up like a tidy textbook of genres, or different cultures in a social studies class.”

Composed by Martyn, Thom, Mike, Lawrence and Tom , Citizens! is a London-based five-piece with a mission: to reclaim pop music, because “Pop is not a dirty word. It’s a holy one.” Recently signed to indie label Kitsuné (the lasbel who brought you Logo, Delphic or Housse de Racket), they recorded their debut album in a house, played the whole thing live, got drunk, fought over lyrics and didn’t edit out the mistakes. Most importantly, they never allowed themselves to mimic any particular moment from decades past.

The band’s high-octane debut single, “True Romance”, appeared on Kitsuné’s last compilation and it is getting a proper single release tomorrow December 19th. Along with the original track, the EP includes remixes by talented artists as Database, Populette, White Shadow, Cassian, and Database !
