After winning the Disco Mix Club championship four times in a row from 2003 to 2006, C2C decided to expand into original music production. What you will hear below is the title track from their five-track EP Down The Road, released last January.

C2C may not be a household name yet but their unique mix of hip hop, jazz and electronica has enough oomph to woo electro music enthusiasts the world over. Check out their tribute to Louis Armstrong, a fully scratched up rendition of “Mack the Knife”.

ICEBIRD – THE ABANDONED LULLABY (Soul/Funk – US)

Based in Philadelphia, Icebird is the result of a collaboration between renowned beatmaker Rjd2 and singer-songwriter Aaron Livingston. The pair released their debut album The Abandoned Lullaby last October on Rjd2′s label Electrical Connections.

The project was born after Livingston contributed vocals on a track off Rjd2′s previous album The Colossus. The two artists totally clicked and decided to write more songs together, exploring different influences and building bridges between genres. From the first beats to the last notes, The Abandoned Lullaby runs the gamut of emotions, with producer and singer each bringing their distinct touch while staying in synch throughout.

JUST KIDDIN – SERIOUSLY PART TWO (House/Club – UK)

UK-based duo Just Kiddin have only been around for a little over a year but their originals and remixes have already featured on just about every decent music blog. On the heels of their 2011 debut EP, Seriously Part One, the boys recently released the second act, Seriously Part Two, via Top Billin Music.

Just like their previous EP, this new release is full of disco-fuelled club bangers, equally influenced by feel-good funk and French house. These guys smash genres together, sprinkle the whole thing with clean beats and come up with a sound that will please connoisseurs and casual clubbers alike.

Between recording sessions and DJ sets, Just Kiddin also find time to produce cool remixes for other artists (Steed Lord, Icebird, Nicola Roberts). If you like what you hear, here are a few more tracks for your aural pleasure.

GIN JOINTS – FOR TONIGHT (Disco/Funk – Sweden)

With his roots in the Swedish hip hop scene, Gin Joints was still in his teens when he started DJing and making music with rappers like Planet Asia, Grand Agent, Movits! and Young Ivy. A few years down the line, Gin Joints has moved on from his first compositions and turned to 80s funk, disco and electro for inspiration.

To follow up on his very well received debut solo EP, Know The Ledge, Gin Joints is introducing a brand new five-track EP called For Tonight. Released via Swedish label and party promoter Discotheque á la Carte, the EP includes three original tracks and two killer remixes of the title track by Neon Workout and Simon Frank.

This record maintains the same funky/electro direction as Know The Ledge but this time around the beats are icy cold and the mood is perfect for a mid-winter jam.

LA-based DJs Michael David and Tyler Blake, better known as Classixx, have been shaking dancefloors the world over for the past five years with their smooth blend of disco, funk, house and electro. HOLY GHOST – I WANTED TO TELL HER (Disco/Funk – US)

It’s always exciting to hear new music by Brooklyn lads Holy Ghost!, so it’s great news to know they have a brand new single out. Even better news is that the song is available for free download via Green Label. “I Wanted To Tell Her” is a high energy funky cover of Ministry’s 1983 synthpop classic, which they have re-recorded with a little help from Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem) and Juan Maclean.

CHLORINE FREE – START FRESH (Jazz/Funk – France)

First heard on Rubin Steiner’s compilations, French collective Chlorine Free breathe new life into Jazz Fusion. With their creative mix of Jazz, Funk and elements of electronica, they could really be onto something.

Inspired by classics of Jazz music but also by a myriad other genres, the seven artists who make up the combo’s current line-up are as comfortable in the studio as they are on stage, jamming and experimenting. When performing live, Chlorine Free is a feast for the ears and for the eye: with two keyboardists (Rhodes and Clavinet), drum-bass, trombone, flute and a live DJ, this is hardly a common line-up. Together they create some powerful grooves and deconstruct the norms of Jazz, Funk, Electro, and everything in between.

No wonder highly-respected hip hop artist Raashan Ahmad happily accepted their invitation to be featured on Start Fresh, the band’s debut EP, released last May on DuNose Records. The SF-based rapper/poet contributes vocals to Chlorine Free’s highly addictive funky number “D’fish”, which is already getting some serious airplay on French avant-guarde Radio Nova.

HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR – BLUE SONGS (House/Disco/Funk – US)

Best known for the disco-house classic “Blind”, Hercules and Love Affair is the brainchild of songwriter/producer Andy Butler, who wanted to create a mutable ensemble which would evolve in time to incorporate different artists. So while H&LA’s 2008 debut LP showcased the talents of vocalist Nomi Ruiz, singer/songwriter Antony Hegarty and DJ/vocalist Kim Ann Foxman, their new album Blue Songs features new recruits Shaun Wright and Venezuelan singer Aerea Negrot who now lead the vocals.

With this album, Butler and his mates keep pushing forward the message that “dance music is a very legitimate form of music” that’s not limited to H&LA’s usual four-to-the-flour pop-house bangers. Blue Songs, as its title suggests, looks into the melancholy side of dance music and includes softer and stranger compositions.

Hercules & The Love Affair’s fantastic new single “Painted Eyes” will be out in Europe April 18 on Moshi Moshi. To celebrate this release, they have covered “Shelter” (originally by The Xx), painting a distinctly different picture with the same brush. Kim Ann Foxman’s vocals lift the track into a dimension of late night dance we all relish.

Chromeo is an electrofunk duo based in Montreal and New York City. The duo is composed of P-Thugg, (Patrick Gemayel) on keyboards, synthesizers and talk box, and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch, who happens to be the older brother of A-Trak) on guitar and lead vocals. The two have been friends since childhood and officially formed the band in 2002. With their customary irony, they describe themselves as the only successful Arab/Jewish collaboration since the beginning of time. And they have been quite successful indeed. Ever since their 2004 debut album She’s In Control, which spawned massive singles such as “Needy Girl” and “Rage”, the pair has garnered wide interest and praise…

It might not be as ambitious or fresh as Fancy Footwork but it’s still a solid invitation to the dance floor.

GENERAL ELEKTRIKS – GOOD CITY FOR DREAMERS (Electro/Lounge/Hip Hop – France)

Hervé Salters is the artist behind one-man-band General Elektriks. A French keyboardist with a self-confessed passion for vintage keyboards, Hervé Salters initiated General Electrics just before moving to San Francisco. Using a computer and his oldschool keys, he started sowing together loops, Funky keyboards, light melodies and digital noises.

Also part of the band Honeycut, Salters released his sophomore album as General Elektriks last year to wide acclaim. The new album, Good City For Dreamers, is the follow up to GE’s debut album Cliquety Kliqk. The production here is polished and the songs are just as well crafted as on GE’s debut. Hervé Salters’ new offering is a quirky mix of retro funk, New Wave-inspired indie rock and glitchy electronica that oscillates between moments of quiet contemplation, melancholy and clap-happy euphoria.
