Just a few months after the Terrible Angels EP, French/English songstress Charlotte Gainsbourg is already back with Stage Whisper, a double-LP of live and unreleased material released via Because Music / Elektra. You might have already heard the first single “White Telephone”, well here comes another song from the collection, “Paradisco”, written and produced by Beck.

To celebrate this release, Beatport gave producers a chance to remix “Paradisco” and maybe get their remix released on Because Music—home to the likes of Metronomy and Uffie. You can listen to all the remixes here or stream our favourites below…

Based in the Western suburbs of Paris, Julie Hanse is a (very) young singer songwriter whose heartfelt compositions and powerful voice belie her age. Ever since she was fourteen, she has been writing songs and posting them on YouTube and in the past year or so she has performed at many festivals, even sharing stage with Canadian songstress Julie Doiron and Lithuanian folk sensation Alina Orlova.

French electropop trio Yelle have had a pretty terrific 2011! Their critically-acclaimed sophomore album Safari Disco Club has appeared on just about every music blog ever since its release last March and it has spawned three hugely successful singles and countless remixes…

Over the past year or so Milan-born Paris-based producer/remixer Monsieur Adi (aka Adamo Balbus) has really managed to build a name for himself with his classy electro-house productions. The young artist has released a handful of very successful EPs and a few hyped-up remixes of Ellie Goulding, Visitor, Fallulah and Madonna, to name a few, and he is rumored to be working on his debut album at the moment.

Adi’s latest release, the Fire Fire Fire EP, came out last September via Technofavrik to much praise. Check out the original and a remix by Stay Ali just below.

This track is probably the best example of Monsieur Adi’s powerful clash of baroque and electro, expertly mixing soaring strings and dancefloor-friendly beats…

German-born France-based house producer Fred Falke is probably one of the best known producers amongst regular clubgoers and mainstream radio listeners. Over the past few years, he has churned out anthemic synth-laden remixes for the likes of Little Boots, Likke Li, Metronomy, Burns, Hot Chip, Florrie or Pnau, always demonstrating a particular ability to balance the energy of dance music with a strong pop sensibility.

Having released a few acclaimed singles and EPs along the years (some of them with long-time collaborator Alan Braxe), Falke finally rolled out his long-awaited debut LP, Part IV, a few days ago on December 7th via Kris Menace’s label Work It Baby. Consisting of 12 (mostly) instrumental tracks, this euphoric album contains more than a few of Falke’s previously released tunes (“808 PM at the Beach”, “Chicago”), as well as a few new songs, including the blissful eight-minute dance masterpiece “Aurora”…

This album sounds exactly like one would expect, showcasing Fred Falke’s signature sound, a subtle mix of electro-tinged arrangements, filtered synths and addictive melodies, kept in check by throbbing drums. He re-asserts the musicality of the 70s and 80s within the context of modern music, align the modern French sound with the musical heritage that informed it, to bring that sound to a young crowd.

Hailing from the city of Rennes, indie/folk outfit Manceau is something of a hybrid, with one foot in France and one foot in the UK, musically that is… The band’s four members have always been greatly influenced by all the music that came from across the Channel and in fact they describe themselves as big fans of all Brit Pop from the early days to now.

After a very promising debut EP, On a Mellow Day (self-released in December 2010 via BandCamp), and countless gigs and festival appearances, Manceau are ready to introduce their new single “Full Time Job”, a delicious slice of summery folk-pop with simple yet polished arrangements.

Often compared to fellow countrymen Phoenix, these four multi-instrumentalists share the same obsession with good pop music and the same desire to deliver emotions and feelings through their instantly catchy songs. Manceau are currently working on their debut full-length Life Traffic Jam, produced by Xavier Boyer and Pedro Resende (of Tahiti 80 fame) and due for release in Spring 2012. Continue reading »]]> Meet François Marry, a multi-talented songwriter, musician and graphic artist, hailing from the small French city of Saintes, but based in Bristol since 2003. With his band Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains, the 26-year-old musician has spent the past seven years touring across Europe with the likes of Electrelane or Camera Obscura. An open collective, F&TAM has become a four-piece band over the years. Beside François who gives the band its name and soul, Amaury Ranger plays percussions, Glasgow-born Gerard Black is on bass and Pierre aka Petit Fantôme handles keyboards.

Now signed to Domino Recordings, Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains are ready to spread their wings over indie pop’s vast international landscape. The first single off their new album is called “Piscine” and it defies all genre definitions. Listen below…

The band’s fourth album E Volo Love is out in France since October 3 and will be released in the rest of the world on January 23. To ease the wait, Domino just released four remixes of “Piscine” by Jensen Sportag, Odei, Etienne Jaumet and Outer Limits.

Parisian duo Axel Basquiat and Vincent T, better known as The Penelopes, are back after a long pause with the appropriately-titled new single “Now Now Now”. For this new track, released in the UK on November 11 and scheduled for release elsewhere in December, the pair is joined by vocalist Laura Kidd.

Influenced by everyone from Prefab Sprout to Felix Da Housecat to Devo,  The Penelopes make sparkly electropop, with elastic bass lines, lush keyboard sequences and funky guitars.

Since the beginning of her career almost ten years ago, French chanteuse Camille (born Camille Dalmais) has relentlessly explored the possibilities of modern music with her innovative and unconventional songs. Her past two albums – the platinum-selling French-language breakthrough Le Fil (2005), and its beat-boxy bilingual follow-up Music Hole (2008) – pitted the Parisian performer against the percussive sounds of her own body. Camille’s restless, inventive voice was perfectly enhanced by the gleeful blizzard of clicks, snaps, gulps and claps that she and her then producer, Birmingham-born beatboxer MaJiKer, created to accompany them.

On her self-produced fourth solo album Ilo Veyou, Dalmais continues her musical exploration but MaJiKer is gone. She recorded most of the album in vast spaces with distinctive acoustic qualities – including various churches and abbeys – filling them with playful songs that reflect her current state of mind. “I recorded it in a quiet, serene environment”, she explains, “and it’s a very live, acoustic album about musical moments. It’s very folky and it takes its time, that’s what I would say”.

Arrangements are sparse throughout the album, which may be due to the fact that Camille decided to go back to basics and record all 15 tracks in single takes. Most of Ilo Veyou finds the songstress simply backed by a string quartet and a Brass band and the result is an album that is dazzling in its naked emotion.

As a bonus, you will find a Disco-tinged remix of Camille’s 2009 single “Home Is Where It Hurts”. Produced by David Rubato this complete reinterpretation of the track is as unexpected as it is brilliant!
