Femme is an electro-infused pop act based in London and repped by TapeRec. For now, this is pretty much all the info available on the internet but that’s really all you need to know, ain’t it? Let the music do the rest of the talking…

Let’s just add that Femme performed a memorable first gig last week at the Cheap Thrills label party in London supporting two first class headliners: Hervé and Adam F. Not bad for a start!

After unveiling “Devil’s Work” last December to much blog hype, Swedish trio Miike Snow return with another track taken off their forthcoming album Happy To You.

“Paddling Out” is a stuttering uptempo piece of pop goodness that clearly shows a nice evolution for the band. Maybe it’s the syncopated piano or maybe the frenzied sampled beats, but in any case there’s something utterly addictive about this new song… Keep’em coming!

Boston-based trio Carousel return with a new single, the deliciously upbeat “Know It’s Right”. Not unlike Bag Raiders or Verona, Carousel pack enough shiny swirling synths and sun-kissed layered vocals into their sound to effortlessly brighten up even the coldest of your mid-winter days.

For your information, the members of Carousel met in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music and this is where they began producing/playing music together. Their easy on the ear, radio-friendly sound combines the drive of electro with the melodic sensibilities of indie pop.

Kiwi songstress Kimbra had a pretty great 2011, being featured on “Somebody That I Used To Know”, the Gotye song that has 46 million views on Youtube! She also won the New Zealand Critics’ Choice awards 2011 and an ARIA for Best Female Artist. On top of that Kimbra’s debut album Vows was released last summer down under and shot straight to #3 in her home country and #5 in Australia.

To kick off 2012 in high style the 21-year-old artist has just released her new single “Two Way Street” as well as a remix by Aussie minimal-house prodigy Beni, who gives the song an implacable pulsating beat to take the party right onto the dancefloor.

This is not the first time Kiwi electropop sensation Zowie is mentioned on this blog. You might remember the explosive video for her single “Bite Back”, or maybe the irresistible beat of her most recent hit “Smash It”, released last October. You thought you’d seen it all, well think again!

Let’s just go back in time a little and rediscover “Broken Machine”, the song that made everyone fall in love with Zowie in the first place. The video for this sugar-coated pop anthem was directed by NZ combo Special Problems (also behind stunning videos for Jonathan Boulet, The Naked & Famous, Midnight Juggernauts) and was recently nominated at the New Zealand Music Awards in the best video category! Brooklyn’s own Body Language has risen from the underground armed with synths, vocoder, glockenspiel, percussion, and three graceful voices. Their original music was born from weekly dance parties set up by Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, who quickly enrolled glockenspiel guru Angelica Bess and drummer Ian Chang. Their efforts, which illustrated their life in Brooklyn, were delivered in the five-track Speaks EP.

After collaborating with such wildly different artists as Theophilus London, Machinedrum or Passion Pit and sharing stage with the likes of Zero 7, Sia, Little Boots and SVIIB, Body Language released the Social Studies EP last October. This mini album is a fitting followup to their 2009 debut, applying a refined pop palette to their synth-laden melodies, head-circling hooks and neon-lit grooves.

“The title sums it up perfectly,” explains Grant Wheeler. “Depending on the day, we’re producing indie music, DJing house, disco and Detroit techno, or writing pop songs on the piano. So we wrapped our record up like a tidy textbook of genres, or different cultures in a social studies class.”

Just a few hours ago Sydney duo Flight Facilities shared the video for the single “Foreign Language”, a summery disco pop number featuring Jess Higgs on vocals.  Shot and directed by Dimitri Basil, this retro-looking video is the perfect companion for FF’s 70s-inspired jam.

There is still no official date of release (or title) for a hypothetical debut album by the ever so elusive Australian duo, so for the time being we might as well enjoy a couple of remixes. Beni‘s take on “Foreign Language” keeps the original vibe intact but it strips the mix down and adds a touch of glitchy electronica. On the other hand, Elizabeth Rose turns the song into a chilled after party trip-hop number.

Swedish indie-pop trio Miike Snow premiered a new song yesterday on BBC Radio 1, the first taste of their yet-to-be-titled sophomore album, expected early next year. As we have come to expect from the three Swedes, they have packed enough catchy piano-led melodies, syncopated drums and gorgeous vocals to give ”Devil’s Work” a very high hit factor. Check it out below!

To support the song and the band’s forthcoming album, Swedish director Andreas Nilson was commissioned to make a series of videos themed around the birth of a new race… The first video was unveiled yesterday and is available here.

Australian self-defined modernist band Architecture in Helsinki just finished their final US Tour in support of the award-winning album Moment Bends and they are now back home for a string of live dates all across the country from Sydney to Perth, and everywhere in between. They also recently released the single “W.O.W”, as well as a dreamy remix by American-Chilean DJ Nicolas Jaar, which you can stream below…
