On this first saturday of the new year, get ready to rock it 2012-style with Kaskade. The California-based DJ/producer/remixer (real name Ryan Raddon) released his latest album Fire & Ice in October to some pretty solid fanfare, debuting at #1 on the Billboard dance/electronic albums.

Kaskade’s brand new single “Turn it Down” is already getting remixed left and right, spawning some pretty awesome versions in the process. Atlanta’s own Le Castle Vania manages to turn it into a banger and take the original to the next level.

The song also features the sweet vocals of up-and-coming Swedish pop duo Rebecca and Fiona, already famous for their guest vocals on last summer’s hit “Boy” by Adrian Lux. Check it out and… dance!

Over the past year or so Milan-born Paris-based producer/remixer Monsieur Adi (aka Adamo Balbus) has really managed to build a name for himself with his classy electro-house productions. The young artist has released a handful of very successful EPs and a few hyped-up remixes of Ellie Goulding, Visitor, Fallulah and Madonna, to name a few, and he is rumored to be working on his debut album at the moment.

Adi’s latest release, the Fire Fire Fire EP, came out last September via Technofavrik to much praise. Check out the original and a remix by Stay Ali just below.

This track is probably the best example of Monsieur Adi’s powerful clash of baroque and electro, expertly mixing soaring strings and dancefloor-friendly beats…

Australian four-piece World’s End Press is a straight-up dance-pop outfit, drawing inspiration from  the Happy Mondays-era British scene and effortlessly combining smooth disco arrangements and synth-heavy melodies. Renowned for their wild live shows, they have long earned themselves a large fan base in Melbourne (their hometown) and all over Australia. The band has had a very busy 2011 touring the country multiple times as special guests of Cut Copy, Primal Scream, Little Red and Metronomy as well as appearing at countless festivals.

At the moment, WEP are hard at work on their debut LP, which should in all likelihood be out in early 2012. Until then, why not enjoy a killer remix of their 2010 single “Faithful” by Aussie producer G.L.O.V.E.S? definitely one of the highlights of the band’s last EP…

Continue reading »]]> English/Spanish electrorock outfit Crystal Fighters recently released their last single, “Champion Sound”, taken off  the band’s debut album Star of Love. Influenced by a multitude of different musical genres, their sound is a fusion of fast progressive dance music, traditional Basque folk, synthesisers and heavy beats fuelled by early 80s Spanish punk. Case in point: “Champion Sound” seamlessly integrates syncopated tribal drums, layered vocals and a riff lifted from the Basque folk piece “Sagar Dantza”.

Beside the original song and an acoustic version, the Champion Sound EP includes stellar remixes from Mr Nô, Mustang, AKS, Homework, Steep, Psychemagik, Regal Safari, Clubfeet, Gongon and Outboxx. “City Grrrl” is taken off Cansei De Ser Sexy‘s new album La Liberación, out now on V2 Music. This track is the second official single from the album and it comes with a great video shot in NYC and directed by Cody Critcheloe (of SSION fame), who also contributes vocals on the song. The video is almost autobiographical as it tells the story of a young girl who leaves her suburban home to move to the big city, much like CSS frontsinger Lovefoxxx did in her own time. Continue reading »]]> Skatebård (you can call him Skateboard) is another fascinating member of the remarkable Bergen (Norway) music scene; yes the same magical home of Sondre Lerche, Kings Of Convenience, Röyksopp and Annie.

This offbeat lad began his adventure in music upon the release of his 2002 debut Skateboarding Was A Crime (in 1989) on the legendary Tellektro imprint, electro sublabel of Tellé Records. Skatebård conjured a blend of retro-electro, techno and even instrumental hip-hop that made a massive mark on the dance community. Not one to seek fame and recognition, Skatebård opted to keep a low profile from the start, but his success has kept him in the spotlight for the past few years.

Devoted to the promotion of dancing and a real partisan of the electro revolution, he developed his skills when he moved back to California and started working with partner BetaTraxx (formerly known as Redlight).

Together they created the blog Our Electronic Generation which was conceived as a community of producer/djs and graphic designers who want to connect with music lovers, artists, and fans on a higher level. The blog is a platform for the promotion of art, music, technology and live performance.

Take two high school friends, give them with a keyboard and a couple of laptops. Then, throw in a drummer. What do you get? Beatface, the latest addition to Toronto’s budding indie electro scene. Their influences run the gamut from Esthero and Dallas Green to Portishead and Deadmau5. Attached is their first single “We Don’t Need to Pretend”, an upbeat dance track with witty lyrics.

It started as an experiment in 2009 when Paul, singer, songwriter and member of Pangea Project, and Book, a producer and musician and member of Toronto’s Oddities, decided to create a sound that would be different from anything they had previously created. They paired introspective lyrics with a mix of electronic, rock and pop music and began to create the BEATFACE sound; one that is both catchy and thoughtful. With the sound defined, they added a live drummer to the mix, Jon.

The duo, better known as Pnau, is gearing up for the release of their eagerly anticipated fourth album, Soft Universe, due to hit stores on July 22nd via etcetc Records.

If you were expecting some sweet remixes to go with this brand new single, you won’t be disappointed. Pnau enlisted Cassian, Adrian Lux & Blende to revamp the original track and give it some extra humph for dancefloor consumption. The remixes take the song apart and rebuild it to enhance its intricate musicality and infectious hooks. Two very different versions but pretty complementary. Judge for yourself…
