ALEX METRIC – DEADLY ON A MISSION (Electro/Pop/Club – UK)

British electro wunderkind Alex Metric is a resident DJ on BBC Radio 1′s In New DJs We Trust and has released numerous EPs over the past two years. It all started at a party one night when a slightly inebriated Metric decided to approach electronic pioneer Adam Freeland. The latter soon signed him to his own label Marine Parade, where Metric released his debut EP, What She Wants.

Although roundly embraced by ravers and deejays alike, it was not until Alex turned his attentions to his own vocal offerings that things really started to get interesting. Alex started to push his grinding electronic output in an increasingly pop-centric direction while still mixing together the best bits from his favourite sounds and influences: 80s synth pop, filter disco, big beat and indie.

Alex Metric – Deadly On A Mission (Alex Metric Remix)

The subsequent In Your Machine EP was a jewel of genre-breaking electronic that brought Alex both critical and commercial success. Keeping up the momentum, Deadly On A Mission did yet more damage, and gave the greatest indication yet of what to expect from Alex’s forthcoming album – quirky, offbeat vocals backed with fuzzy, cracked-at-the-edges synths and huge singalong choruses.

After his triumphant third releases, Alex promptly the producer du jour and was headhunted by several up-and-coming bands looking for a touch of the Metric magic (Panama Kings, The Locarnos, Freeland, the Infadels and future pop starlet Charli XCX). He also received an avalanche of remix requests from big name acts such as Hard Fi, Alphabeat, Ladyhawke, Phoenix, Fenech Soler, La Roux and Gorillaz.

Gorillaz – Stylo (Alex Metric Remix)

October 2009 saw Alex launch his live show by supporting Phoenix at Brixton Academy. Since then he has played packed shows throughout the UK and is gearing up for an eventful summer. In summer 2010 Alex is scheduled for appearances at some of the best festivals, including Glastonbury, Global Gathering, SW4, Bestival and Iceland Airwaves later in the year.

SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM – REMIXES (Electro/Dance – Australia)

Sneaky Sound System is a Sydney-based dance act consisting of Black Angus (guitars and production) and Connie Mitchell (vocals). The original line-up included MC Double D but the band announced in September that he had dediced to split from SSS to pursue other interests. During live shows they are joined by Donnie Sloan (from Empire Of The Sun) on bass and keys and Shaun Sibbes on drums. The band cite Hot Chip and Cut Copy as the inspirations to their sound.

Sneaky Sound System – Pictures (Tonite Only Remix)

Their self-titled debut album, put together mainly in their Bondi Beach studio “The House of Whack”, was a collection of high-kicking kitsch electro-pop numbers that had all media raving about them. After this initial success, their second album, 2, went straight to #1 in Australia upon its release. This follow-up spawned more typically hook-filled, inventive singles: “When We Were Young”, “16″ (listen to it HERE) and “It’s Not My Problem”.

Sneaky Sound System – When We Were Young (Breakbot remix)

Angus and Connie are currently busy working on some new material. They have already started on the third Sneaky album and there may even be a taste of it before the end of 2010. In the meantime, here’s a mean remix of “Kansas”. It’s pure Lifelike: glittery dance pop and its best. Enjoy!
