Having recently shaken up dancefloors across Australia with a whirlwind run of live dates, Toronto disco house mavens Azari & III have decided to thank their faithful fans with a free remix! The band are sharing their single “Into the Night” as remixed by Modular label mates Softwar.

The four-piece, consisting of producer/musicians Dinamo Azari and Alixander III with vocalists Fritz Helder and Starving Yet Full, had a pretty awesome 2011, culminating with the release of their debut album in August. In the past few months, Azari & III have also released a string of well-publicized remixes for big electro acts such as Munk, Robyn, The Aikiu, Creep, Uffie, Bot’Ox, Cut Copy and Sneaky Sound System.

Smalltown DJs are Pete Emes and Mike Grimes, two mates who are “just out to consistently have the best time possible”. This fun maximization philosophy is the unifying force behind their club sets, which tend to cover vast musical territory but never veer from the good times vibe.

Not surprisingly, their production style resembles the squad’s approach to deejaying – party-focused and pretension free. The duo’s Love Decoy EP was released last January and it features pumping remixes from So Shifty, Momazing, Oliver and more…

Canadian new wave revivalists Dragonette unveil their new track “The Right Woman”, the first taste of their highly awaited third album. It is featured on Diane von Furstenberg’s Women’s Day compilation Proud to be Woman Vol. 3 and all proceeds will go to an organization dedicated to empowering women worldwide.

Produced in collaboration with Felix Bloxson, who usually works under the Plastic Plates moniker, “The Right Woman” is Dragonette’s first original new track since the summer of 2010 (Our Summer/Volcano single). With its nice combination of punchy beats, glittering synths and sultry vocals, this song proves Dragonette are back in good form!

To celebrate this release, here’s a couple of Dragonette goodies: the first track is the band’s classic hit “I Get Around” remixed by Midnight Juggernauts, the second is a pumped up remix of “Pick Up The Phone” by Van She‘s own Michael DiFrancesco.

Quebec-based singer songwriter Peter Peter released his self-titled debut album in March 2011 on Audiogram (also home to David Giguère, Ariane Moffat or Lhasa), earning him accolades and praises across the board.

The second single taken off this album is the riff-heavy “Porte-Bonheur”, a tale of love and longing whispered like a confession. It is backed by a video featuring Peter Peter and Sea Oleena and directed by Frédérick with Elizabeth Delage on DoP.

If you ‘ve been reading umstrum for a while, you might have heard some of Teen Daze‘s earlier jams here and here. For the uninitiated, prepare to fall under the spell of his mesmerizing brand of synthey chillwave.

The Vancouver-based musician has just shared the song “Brooklyn Sunburn”, taken off his forthcoming album All Of Us Together. This new track features layers of dreamy arrangements, subtly enhanced by Steph Thompson’s ghostly vocals. A real piece of synthpop perfection!

For All Of Us Together, Teen Daze was inspired by a book called Utopian Visions, presenting “different views on what utopia might look like”. Quebec songstress Ariane Moffatt is gearing up for the release of her fourth album MA on February 27th via Audiogram. On this record she reinvents herself, delving into uncharted electro-pop territory with the boldest, brightest songs of her career. By far her most personal work to date, MA is written, performed and produced completely by Ariane herself.

“In Your Body” is the second single taken off the coming album. It evokes Goldfrapp meets the B-52s with its shuffle-step beat, jazzy synth stabs and sassy lyrics.

French-Canadian singer songwriter David Giguère launched his debut album, Hisser Haut, last January 26th with an impressive live performance at the National in Montréal. With his exquisite mix of rock, pop and subtle electronica, the young artist wooed an audience of 650, with a little help from a few special guests including Ariane Moffatt, Fanny Bloom, Emmanuel Schwartz et Pierre-Philippe Côté (alias Pilou).

Canadian singer/pianist Béatrice Martin, better known as Coeur de Pirate, released her much-anticipated sophomore release, Blonde, on November 8th via Grosse Boite Records. This new record is bouncier and more upbeat than the young chanteuse’s previous effort, giving plenty of room for seeping strings arrangements and jazzy big band elements. The first single is the lively retro pop number “Adieu”, which you can sample below.
