Just a few months after the Terrible Angels EP, French/English songstress Charlotte Gainsbourg is already back with Stage Whisper, a double-LP of live and unreleased material released via Because Music / Elektra. You might have already heard the first single “White Telephone”, well here comes another song from the collection, “Paradisco”, written and produced by Beck.

To celebrate this release, Beatport gave producers a chance to remix “Paradisco” and maybe get their remix released on Because Music—home to the likes of Metronomy and Uffie. You can listen to all the remixes here or stream our favourites below…

But there are more goodies coming your way. It turns out Charlotte’s music has been a constant source of inspiration for remixers all around the world in recent years, producing a seemingly endless string of great reworks. Their “instruments” consist of her powerful vocals and his unorthodox juxtaposition of percussion and drums, resulting in a powerful, innovative sound.

The track below is taken off the duo’s critically acclaimed fourth album Rivers. It was remixed by Fodral, who masterfully duplicated the steel drums intro and added layers of cosmic synths to enhance Wallentin’s vocals.

Wildbirds & Peacedrums – The Well (Fodral Remix)

While W&P’s music lends itself very nicely to remixes of all kinds (see remixes by The Field, AU or WhoMadeWho), it is even more haunting and mesmeric in its raw form. But don’t take my word for it, the Observer Music Month describes their debut album as a “heady brew of pagan blues, spiritual pop and ecstatic soul music.Something to be treasured”

London-based disco rock trio We Have Band have just unveiled a new track off their forthcoming sophomore album Ternion, scheduled for release at the end of January. “Watertight” follows on the heels of their December single “Where Are Your People”, a delicious piece of catchy indie pop with dark undertones.

The single was backed with WHB’s covers of “Still Life” by The Horrors and “Within and Without” by Washed Out and it drastically raised expectations ahead of the band’s new abum. Now Darren Bancroft, Dede W-P and Thomas W-P are back with more new music: “Watertight” is further proof that WHB have mastered the art of mixing influences to create a sound that defies categorisation or pigeonholing.

We Have Band – Watertight

Ternion is now available to pre-order CD, limited edition double CD, vinyl and digital download from HMV, Amazon, Recordstore (signed copies), iTunes, or your local record shop.

Influenced by a multitude of different musical genres, their sound is a fusion of fast progressive dance music, traditional Basque folk, synthesisers and heavy beats fuelled by early 80s Spanish punk. Case in point: “Champion Sound” seamlessly integrates syncopated tribal drums, layered vocals and a riff lifted from the Basque folk piece “Sagar Dantza”.

Beside the original song and an acoustic version, the Champion Sound EP includes stellar remixes from Mr Nô, Mustang, AKS, Homework, Steep, Psychemagik, Regal Safari, Clubfeet, Gongon and Outboxx. Check out Regal Safari’s laid back ambient mix and Steep’s dancier electro reinterpretation just below and stream the other remixes on SoundCloud!

His self-titled solo debut was released last March on via Community Music (and Rough Trade in Europe).

The album includes 10 brand new songs that Alexander wrote and composed entirely himself. During breaks from touring with the Zeroes over the past year, Alexander began building and recording the pieces that would become the songs for this album alone in his bedroom. The first single off the album, “Truth”, is a good example of the album’s dark folky sound. Sample the song below and download it for free (as well as a remix by White Arrows) on Ebert’s official site.

Since the beginning of her career almost ten years ago, French chanteuse Camille (born Camille Dalmais) has relentlessly explored the possibilities of modern music with her innovative and unconventional songs. Her past two albums – the platinum-selling French-language breakthrough Le Fil (2005), and its beat-boxy bilingual follow-up Music Hole (2008) – pitted the Parisian performer against the percussive sounds of her own body. Camille’s restless, inventive voice was perfectly enhanced by the gleeful blizzard of clicks, snaps, gulps and claps that she and her then producer, Birmingham-born beatboxer MaJiKer, created to accompany them.

Camille – Au Port

On her self-produced fourth solo album Ilo Veyou, Dalmais continues her musical exploration but MaJiKer is gone. She recorded most of the album in vast spaces with distinctive acoustic qualities – including various churches and abbeys – filling them with playful songs that reflect her current state of mind. “I recorded it in a quiet, serene environment”, she explains, “and it’s a very live, acoustic album about musical moments. It’s very folky and it takes its time, that’s what I would say”.

Camille – L’Etourderie

Arrangements are sparse throughout the album, which may be due to the fact that Camille decided to go back to basics and record all 15 tracks in single takes. Most of Ilo Veyou finds the songstress simply backed by a string quartet and a Brass band and the result is an album that is dazzling in its naked emotion.

As a bonus, you will find a Disco-tinged remix of Camille’s 2009 single “Home Is Where It Hurts”. Produced by David Rubato this complete reinterpretation of the track is as unexpected as it is brilliant!

Norwegian electro-pop ensemble Casiokids return with their third album Aabenbaringen over aaskammen (or, in English, The Revelation over the Mountain), released on October 11th via Universal/Polyvinyl. This album is the follow-up to last year’s Topp Stemning På Lokal Bar and it comprises 10 tracks, ranging from big sing-along choruses to childish naivism, to dark grooves, and pretty much everything in between. Actually, “eclectic” is probably the word that best characterises this album, so much so that it sometimes even sounds a bit all-over-the place….

Once a motley crew of promising amateurs, Casiokids are no longer an underground band. As a matter of fact, they received a million-kroner grant from Norwegian pop gods A-Ha to produce their new album, and this new affluence, resulting in a more lavishly produced record, might be one of the reasons for their lack of focus. The band had ambitiously promised to explore new roads and techniques while still retaining “the rawness of the first two records” but this kind of balancing act can be tricky for a band that is still relatively young.

Casiokids – Det haster!

Some of the songs are great: the first single “Det Haster!” retains all the the funky energy of earlier success “Fot I Hose” while showing a positive evolution of the band’s sound. But others feel like incomplete bits thrown together for experimentation’s sake. The end result is still very enjoyable alternative pop with some moments of electrifying beauty and genius. It’s the album of band that is still building itself, and what’s wrong with that?

After months of teasing and rising expectation, London-based four piece Clock Opera finally released their brand new EP Lesson No. 7. Out on Moshi Moshi / Island Records since October 3rd, the record includes the title track, a remix by fellow Londoner Tom Vek and another new original song: “Seven Hours”. Clock Opera are generously giving away for free Tom Vek’s superb remix of “Lesson No. 7″ in exchange for your email address. Visit their official site to get your free download!

Clock Opera – Lesson No.7 (Tom Vek’s Tripping Mix)

You might remember Clock Opera from their critically acclaimed singles “White Noise”, “A Piece of String”, “Once And For All” and “Belongings”. With every new release the band, spearheaded by Guy Connelly, showcased their own personal blend of frenetic, bleep-ridden synth-rock, a sound they also recreated live on stages across the UK, Europe and further. But you might also know Clock Opera for their very good remixes: Marina & The Diamonds, The Golden Filter, Architecture in Helsinki, Au Revoir Simone, Metronomy and The Phenomenal Handclap Band are amongst the artists who put their music into Clock Opera’s expert hands…

Word on the street is that the Lesson No. 7 EP is just an appetizer for Clock Opera’s debut album, which should be out sometime in early 2012. No official release date has been announced yet so one can only hope… In the meantime, here’s the song “Belonging” as a bonus just for your ears!

This self-released album is the work of Malcolm Lacey, a very young and extremely talented artist better known as arrange. Being only 18, it is quite impressive how Lacey manages to write compelling songs about longing, resentment and fear with controlled intensity, without ever going over the top.

arrange – Turnpike

On the whole, this is a record that stubbornly clings to the darker half of the emotional spectrum, allowing only brief moments of solace, mainly throughout it five instrumentals. Lacey’s highly personalized fusion of dark indie-pop and laptop ambient taps mostly consists of simple piano figures and understated electronic textures while the recording is lo-fi and has brief moments of distortion. In this Plantation is very much a bedroom production and the recording quality is sometimes uneven, but these very imperfections give the album its intimate character.

While a big chunk of the album brings to mind the heart-wrenching 2005 “break-up album” Differenf Days by l’Altra, Plantation is also reminiscent of The Antlers’ Hospice, Death Cab for Cutie’s trademark piano-led songs or Telefon Tel Aviv‘s earlier works.

arrange – In Old Theaters

With meticulous attention to detail, Malcolm Lacey builds an album that feels quite cinematic in its development, unfolding itself song after song, much like a film does scene after scene. In this mosaic of dreamy pop songs, Lacey’s vision holds all the pieces together, adding the layers to make a coherent whole.
