Back in 2004, when they recorded The Conjugal Visit, hip hop producer Gin Joints and rapper Young Ivy were living on different continents. Ivy had moved from Luleå in Northern Sweden to the USA and the two only got together when Ivy came back to visit during holidays. On one such visits, Gin Joints and Young Ivy During had three hectic weeks of writing and recording that resulted in the EP The Conjugal Visit.
During this three-week marathon recording session, they combined their talents to deliver one of the most underrated hip hop albums of the decade. In era of autotune and babbling over music rather than rapping, this EP is quite refreshing and impressive. It has that groove and soul-tinged vibe that true hip hop heads around the world expect from any album. Who cares if Gin Joints and Young Ivy are from Sweden, they’ve got what it takes to make powerful hip hop and make you move your feet and shake your hands!
